In this game, I will dispel some myths and corroborate some facts.
- Iyers and Iyengars are always at loggerheads with each other.
-Myth. - We still live in a ridiculous society where women are made to feel insecure about their skin-color(or lack of it rather) and ergo their appearance.
-Fact. - There has been an increase in rowdyism in Tamilnadu in the past 2-3 years.
-Fact. - Indian men in general are more patient than American men.
-Fact. - Brits are all smarter than Americans.
-Myth. This may have something to do with the fact that Brits are more harsh and cynical, leading to the mistaken belief that they are smart. This is rubbish. eg: Simon Cowell. His remarks may sound harsh and 'clever' but under careful analysis are actually silly and irritating. - Aham Brahmasmi.
-Fact. - Jealousy and insecurity is present to a slightly greater extent in women than it is in men.
-Fact. I would like to very clearly state at this point that i do indeed believe in women's rights. - Iyengars ALWAYS make better puliyodarai than Iyers.
-Myth. - It is impossible for brains and looks to go together.
-Myth. - The Brits have given us some of the best music over the decades.
-Fact. - The Law of Karma, though inscrutable, works.
-Fact.

Nice list. I would agree with most of them. The thing is to never say ALWAYS anywhere. Anything that has all/ always embedded in it and deals with human behavior can't be a fact.
I strongly prefer Iyengar temple puliyodharai. :D
And you might want to define in which aspect Indian men are more patient.
lol..nice post and nice list..as a biased iyengar, I have to state that we do ALWAYS make better puliyodhrai... :P its like we were born knowing how to make it ;)
and as for women being more insecure than men...il have to disagree with you on that count too..ud be surprised some of the childish insecurities men put themselves through...much like women...
i see a certain amount of frustration at human-kind in this post.
tried calling you yesterday. please answer your cell phone.
@Idling
if you will notice, the points with all/always in them have all been clearly stated as myths. :)
and defining in which aspects indian and american men are patient calls for a clear,separate post in itself. hence warranting usage of the term 'general' in this one.
and as for the puliyodarai, you are more than welcome to taste my great-aunt's and my neighbor's -both Iyer ladies-and make your own decision. :D
@Fiona
Regd. the puliyodarai-"biased"-i rest my case. :)
And I never said that jealousy and insecurity are not present among men. The point refers to the degree.
@Sriram
You must realize that what previously took me 5 seconds now takes me 5 minutes, because of hampered mobility. you cut the call before i could get to the phone. :(
What about the great old debate = Iyengars are more intelligent than the Iyers .. Myth or fact ? :)
Keep adding to the list :)
aham brahmasmi?
Nice post, loved the last one-The Law of Karma, though inscrutable, works -Fact
Your blog is "OK".
- Myth.
[it is super. :)]
Should we say that Iyer and Iyengar ladies are jealous and insecure about who makes better puliyodharai and who is fairer, which leads to them being at loggerheads, resulting in increased rowdyism in Tamil Nadu, while the men patiently look for brains rather than beauty only to realize that Brits are smarter and make better music... and that this one sentence containing everything within itself can be called 'aham brahmasmi'!
THIS is Law of Karmam :)
@Vinod
I wasn't aware that such a debate existed.
I think im pretty much tapped out. Will let others continue adding. :)
@dharmabum
Aham Brahmasmi is a sanskrit term meaning "naan kadavul" or "i am God." To be taken in a spiritual/philosophical sense.
@Perception
thankyou. :) That one was my favorite too. :))
@BSK
dankyou very much :)
@SRK
lol..brilliant. :)
@Varun
Since we realize the fact that we are God, I guess that makes us smarter. :)
The Tamilians have given us the best music always.
Fact
Deep down heart, every educated urban guy/girl still holds on to his/her caste....
Unfortunate Fact ..
Nice post albeit Dudet..
@aandthirtyeights
like i said before all my all/always statements have been stated as myths. :) but i agree with you in the sense id put Tamilians in the top 3 wrt music. :))
@Ashwin
yes, thats true.
and thankyou! :))
"if you will notice, the points with all/always in them have all been clearly stated as myths. :)"
My point is that since they are *always* myths, they don't need to be in a fact vs myth post (coz there is no doubt that they are *always* gonna be called myths.) Now isn't that a fact? :D
@Idling
Fair enough. but someone needs to step up to the plate and proclaim out loud that they will, in FACT, always be myths. :D
Nice list indeed...as for iyengars and iyers...trust me...i know firsthand the myriad tussles!
Amazing! seriously, its like u tease the reader with humour hidden in every line! and hey, Simon Cowell has been living in America lately, hence the effect. Other Brits are smarter than Americans - my idols: Jeremy Clarkson and Michael Wood sure are. Then there's Billy Piper who's way smarter than Britney Spears. :)
lovely post. keeps the reader happy and satisfied to have come across one such post!
@Liberal
I'll take your word for it. :D
@Varun
Glad you enjoyed the post as much as I enjoyed compiling it. :)
And I agree with you about Michael Wood.
People need to get over the skin colour thing! And so true about the Karma
I'd say some guys can be just as jealous, they're not just open about it :P
